Meet the founders

Jim and Oli Lance

Jim & Oli Lance

Jim and Oli Lance first met in the womb, bonding over shared interests such as growing limbs and developing consciousness. On 5 January 1995, they entered the world. Jim arrived bum first, relatively unscathed. Oli, on the other hand, got stuck for 30 minutes, required two forceps, was reportedly resuscitated several times and spent two weeks in intensive care. He has since apologised profusely to his mother. But onwards. Growing up between Sydney and Hong Kong, the brothers were two of nine siblings, a chaotic collection of full, half and step-siblings that made Modern Family look relatively straightforward. Between divorces, remarriages, Catholic boarding school and a family tree that requires its own instruction manual, they were never short of colourful characters or material for a good story. After school, Oli briefly studied screen acting before dropping out to chase a girlfriend to Europe, who promptly broke up with him six weeks later. Both brothers eventually dropped out of university, got kicked out of home and fell into careers in sales, working their way through finance and technology to some semblance of professional success. But the creative itch never went away. So, in 2022, armed with absolutely no screenwriting experience, they downloaded Final Draft, consumed every screenwriting book and YouTube tutorial they could find, and got to work. While juggling full-time jobs, they spent the following years writing pilots, developing original concepts and building a growing slate of television projects, including their flagship comedy-drama, Chasing Charlie. Today, through Waldo Pictures, they're pitching original Australian stories to some of the country's most respected production companies. Inspired by their own unconventional upbringing, they're passionate about telling funny, heartfelt and distinctly human stories that audiences can see themselves in. They're well aware that breaking into television is no easy feat, but with a shared creative vision, an unreasonable amount of determination and absolutely no intention of giving up, they're committed to making it happen.

Chasing Charlie

8 × 30′Comedy-drama

Logline

After directionless twin brothers find out they're now the legal guardians of a teenage sister they never knew existed, they must reluctantly grow up and prove they can be a family in three months, or risk being torn apart for good.

Synopsis

When chaotic twins Henry and Jack suddenly become responsible for Charlie, their sharp, grieving sixteen-year-old half-sister, they have three months to prove they can give her a stable home or lose her to foster care. Henry tries to manage Charlie like another problem to solve. Jack hides behind charm and bad decisions. And Charlie, angry and unsure where she belongs, is secretly chasing answers from Tony, the father who walked out on all of them. As the custody hearing nears, school dramas, social worker visits and a mouldy Inner West rental test a household that barely knows how to be one. A reluctant arrangement slowly becomes something funnier, messier and more meaningful, and all three have to decide whether family is something you're born into, or something you fight for.

Grass Roots

6 × 30′Comedy-drama

Logline

Estranged twins, a dairy farmer and a Sydney finance man, inherit their late father's struggling rural rugby league club. And each other.

Synopsis

When their father dies, identical twins George and Alfie Graham come face to face for the first time in years. George never left Lefton and runs the family dairy farm. Alfie left as fast as he could and now makes deals in Sydney finance. At the reading of the will, the brothers learn their father has left them joint control of the Lefton Lanterns, the town's struggling rugby league club, on terms that make walking away almost impossible. Pulled back into the same town, the same clubhouse and the same family history they've spent years avoiding, they have to keep a club afloat that's barely holding together, and find out what else their father left behind.

The Human Condition

Half-hour seriesSci-fi comedy

Logline

When a directionless con-man is mistaken by two literal aliens as Earth's representative, humanity's fate rests in the hands of its worst possible example.

Synopsis

Leo's life is already falling apart when he witnesses a well-liked schoolteacher die in a hit-and-run. Seeing a chance at reinvention, he steals the man's identity. That night, two aliens, Puting and Futing, arrive at his door. They believe he's the teacher, and he's been selected to represent Earth in a universal census. Refuse, and his ex-partner Dani dies. Comply, and humanity's fate rests on his behaviour. So Leo drags the aliens through pubs, shopping centres and domestic arguments, trying to teach them what it means to be human without revealing the truth: he's objectively the worst person for the job.
